Wild and Exotic Animals Ordinance 91.01, 91.11 and 91.37

Under the proposed ordinance, certain exotic animals may qualify for “grandfathered” status. A grandfathered exotic animal is one that was legally owned or possessed prior to May 7, 2026, and is registered with the City by July 7, 2026. The animal must also maintain a valid registration certificate at all times.

Exotic animals that meet these requirements may remain with their current owner for the duration of the animal’s natural life. However, grandfathered exotic animals may not be sold, transferred, traded, or otherwise conveyed to another person within the City. Exceptions are limited to transfers to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator or an accredited and licensed zoological facility legally operating within the City.
